Saturday 19th May 2018 at 12pm, something big is happening. That's right, Sky Atlantic are showing a re-run of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Season 3 episode 21 where Gil Grissom foils a dodgy group of diamond-smugglers after investigating the suspicious death of a horse trainer on a private jet! Elsewhere, our sixth-in-line to the throne and hottest ginge in England, is getting hitched to an American film star, then feasting on lemon and elderflower cake. But all we care about is this: WHAT WILL SHE WEAR???
When Princess Kate married Prince William, strapless satin or taffeta gowns were very popular with lace usually being met with a sneer and ''it reminds me of my grans net curtains,'' (Must have been bloody posh curtains but that's by-the-by), and then the Duchess stepped out of her car in her Sarah Burton for Alexander Mcqueen gown (see below), and suddenly the bridal scene was awash with lace sleeves and A-line skirts! She literally changed the entire bridal industry in a day and in a few days time, Meghan is set to do the same.
Pictured L-R: Pippa Middleton, Kate in her 1st dress, Kate in her 2nd dress, Meghan in 'Suits'.
The 'Suits' actress is known for her chic, pared-back style and love of unknown designers, will she follow in Kate's traditional footsteps or blaze her own trail?
We all pondered over Pippa's dress too but the girls had similar tastes with Pippa stepping out in her not-completely-dissimilar-to-Kates Giles Deacon gown, which although sleeveless and with a high neck, was clearly influenced by her sister's choice. Both lace, both A-line, both covering their shoulders. Will Meghan follow suit? (no pun intended). Or will she showcase that rebellious streak her hubby-to-be is known for? I've listed a few of my gowns that I think would tick a few of Meg's boxes:
'Ixion' by Sophia Tolli
This sexy, slipper satin gown would be in stark contrast to any royals gone before her, marking her out as the rebel among The Firm. With it's high neck, on-trend illusion back detail and featuring lace cut-out detail, it would certainly send shock-waves around the country!
I don't think Meghan will choose anything as fitted as this out of respect for the Royal family, but she may choose a slimmer fit for her second dress (yes girls, it is tradition for newly wed royals to have at least two dresses!) and I think she would find the sexiness of an illusion back combined with satin rather appealing. I think Harry might too!
'2203' by Casablanca Bridal
This gown has lots of layered chantilly lace, known for it's delicate appearance. Soft tulle and delicate beading add fairytale sparkle, while the detachable lace jacket being off-shoulder hints at sexy without being overt - something Meghan could get away with as she won't have to adhere to the same strict rules Kate did. Harry and Meghan are marrying in St Georges Hall which is more laid-back than Kate & Will's Catholic ceremony at the palace.
The '2203' gown is also a more fitted style which would show off the actresses silhouette but the full skirt keeps the overall look suitably regal.
'Madelaine' by St Patrick
My money's on this classic mikado style! Meghan has been quoted as saying she'd like her bridal gown to be 'Classic' and I think that this simple, structured gown would be perfect. The elegant high neck is balanced by the lightly pleated A-line skirt, while the cheeky bow detail adds a touch of rebellion, hinting at her style credentials. The back of 'Madelaine' features a lace insert so she hasn't totally sacrificed timeless lace - and more can be added with the veil if she so wishes. It even has a look of style queen Audrey Hepburn - the height of sophistication!
What else do we know?
Invites: Black, gold & ivory - an awesome choice (and the colour scheme here at Love Story!)
Flowers: Roses, peonies & foxgloves, with branches of beech, birch & hornbeam.
Photographer: Alexi Lubomirski
Cake: Lemon & elderflower
Possible dress designer: Ralph & Russo, Erdem, Burberry & Alexander McQueen have all been thrown into the mix with the smart money on Ralph & Russo.
Above all, we know that Miss Markle will look stunning in whatever she wears. All we can do now is wait until Saturday.
